A retired horticulture assistant officer living in Karnataka’s Shivamogga has grown 20 different varieties of mango on a single tree.

Retired Horticulture Assistant Officer K. Srinivas while talking to news agency ANI said, “There was some vacant space in front of my house. I planted a local variety of mango there. Later I decided to graft one or two more varieties on it. But in the last 16 years I have successfully grown 20 different varieties, these are Bagampalle, Mallika, Totapuri, Ratnagiri Hapus etc.”

He further added, “This type of concept is great in small space in smart cities like Shivamogga. Similarly other cultivators can also make profit by growing multiple varieties on the same tree.”

According to a report in ETVBharat, “While traveling to other districts and states, Srinivas used to bring a mango sapling and plant it on the tree.”

I used to bring mango buds every year and plant them on the tree. Now many varieties have grown on the same tree” he said.
