“Pubarun Basu has recently won the title of ‘Youth Photographer of the Year‘ and it is known that Pubarun is the first Indian to do so. The name of his picture for which Pubarun has received this award is ‘No Escape from Reality‘.” Significantly, more than 3 lakh entries were made for this competition from all over the world.
For the past few days, a young photographer Pubarun is in the news as he has won the prestigious award for one of his very special artwork. 20-year-old Pubarun Basu, comes from Kolkata. Pubarun’s father Pranab Basu is also a photographer and this has been the biggest reason that Pubarun got attracted towards photography at a very young age.
When Pubarun Basu was just 4 years old, he took the DSLR camera in his hands for the first time. The first photo taken by Basu was of a folk artist and this photo was taken in Shantiniketan, West Bengal.

There is also an interesting story associated with this particular picture of Pubarun for which he has been awarded this title. While talking to a media channel, Pubarun told that he was passing near his parents’ room one day when he saw some shadows in a curtain, which took the form of lines.
According to Pubarun, that design left an impact in him and Pubarun got the inspiration for his photo.
Pubarun urged his mother to go behind the curtain and placed her hands on the screen as if someone was trying to get out of the ‘cage’. According to Pubarun, he worked it well with his mother and then he took this photo.
Work on skills in lockdown
This particular photo was submitted by Pubarun in July 2020 and he was informed of his victory in March 2021, although he had to keep it a secret until the official announcement in April 2021.
It is worth noting that every year a special exhibition is organized in London in connection with this award, but this time it has not been possible due to the Corona epidemic. Pubarun has also participated in this competition in the year 2019, although he did not get any award then.
During the lockdown due to the Corona virus epidemic, Pubarun started working on his photography skills. During this time Pubarun continued to learn from his mistakes. According to Pubarun, he considers patience as a big weapon in his photography. Even while taking a picture, he does not take many pictures at once, but during the photography he believes in taking pictures comfortably.
According to Pubarun, by doing this, he is able to express his point of view through photographs more effectively.
Pubarun is also a musician
According to Pubarun, he keeps trying to learn photography through his father’s photo book and also through social media.
Apart from being an award winning photographer, Pubarun is also a musician. Pubarun has been playing the Tabla since he was just 13 years old. Pubarun now wants to become fully versed in both music and photography. Pubarun also wants to try his hand at filmmaking in the future.
