As interesting as the keyboard and trackpad mechanics of the new MacBook are, one thing almost got lost in the hustle and bustle of the presentation. Apple used to put the glowing or shining apple logo on the back of their MacBook, but not anymore.

Well, the new MacBook with its 12 “retina display has a revolutionary, pressure-sensitive and beautiful keyboard. But what about an extraordinary glowing apple logo on the outside of the Mac? Now it is just a superfluous accessory from bygone times.

Why The MacBook’s Glowing Apple Logo Removed?

Basically, this phase was starting since 2015. Without knowing the official reasons for this, we suspect that Apple was willing to remove the glowing logo purely for design reasons. And we can’t forget the times when Apple was leaning towards bankruptcy, but fortunately sales reached their all-time high during 2015-2016.

The new MacBook is significantly thinner than any other MacBook ever before. The motherboard is around 67 percent smaller than the one in the MacBook Air from last year. And the new Intel Core M processor, although super efficient, but durably weak. In addition, Apple illuminates the new keyboard with many individual LEDs, instead of area-wide lighting.

It sounds less convincing to me that the new Retina display is the reason for killing the glowing apple. The new Retina display is not able to provide the necessary backlighting, which ultimately makes the logo glow. Although, the brightness of the Apple logo on the back used to be controlled through the brightness of the screen.

But still, a significantly slimmer new design sounds more reasonable for the waiver of the glowing logo.

There is also a strange change that MacBook is not being sold as the “Apple MacBook”. Of course, it could help Apple to strengthen the branding in the market. Maybe there is more to come in this regard – maybe Apple Car?
